Production Meetings During the Third Week

During our meetings this week we started off by creating a 'to do' list off all things we needed to get done. This made it more clear for all of us to see what we had to. Some of the things we had to were quite important and big tasks, for example creating a website flat plan and an album cover flatplan. For tasks like these we split them up and worked on them individually. 

We also began to make a list of the sequencing, and all of the possible different scenes that we were going to film. Under each scene we listed the props that we would need, this gave us a clear idea of what we would need to start looking at buying, finding, or borrowing before the shoot.

We also made a list of all of the different things that we needed to test. We had quite a lot of different ideas for our video and we weren't sure how many of them would turn; to save time on shoot we decided that we should try some things out first so we could see if they worked well enough to use in the real thing.

Production Meetings During the First Week

In our very first production meeting, we all sat around a table and discussed our initial ideas and the genres that we were interested in. We brainstormed ideas that were related to all of our ideas and we quite quickly decided that a song of the dance genre would really fit well with all of our ideas, it's also a very popular genre at the moment, and one which we know a fair amount about. We all really liked the idea of following around a group of friends in a naturalistic environment, possibly following them on their journey through London on a night out.

In later meetings this week we concluded that filming outside in London would be very difficult for several reasons. Firstly, filming in November could potentially be very risky with the weather, and filming the entire thing outside would require dry weather on all of the shoot days. Also, some locations are hard to film in, eg.London Underground, as we would need permission before we filmed down there.

After realising the faults with our initial idea, we decided to take advantage of the studio we have access to in school, and to use this to our advantage and film large sections of the video inside in a controlled environment - a much less risky choice. However, having said this, we are still really keen on filming a powder paint fight outside in the forest.

Track

Chosen Track: Wanklemut, Emma Louise - My Head is a Jungle MK Remix)


We have chosen to keep the name of our track as My Head Is A Jungle as those are the lyrics that are repeated throughout the song. As a debut single it it's important for the track to be easily identified by people listening to it on the radio etc, who may not already know the song.

Also, a lot of our ideas to do with the video relate to the idea of her being "a jungle", creating a strange, magical world inside of her head.

This is the original song that the remix was made from, by a female solo artist called Emma Louise.

Record Label

The name of our record label is Technicity Records; we chose this name as it has an electronic feel to the word, giving it a symbiotic relationship with the dance genre that the label will work so closely with. We think that the name is also easy to remember and will stick in people's minds.

We modelled our label on the record label Positiva which is one of the biggest dance music labels in the UK. Positiva is a subsidiary label which is owned by EMI who represents artists such as Avicii and David Guetta - artists at the very top of of the dance genre.

Artist

Our artist is going to be a mixed gender group, with a lead female vocalist and two male DJs. This is a fairly unique approach to the formation of our artist, within any genre of music; however, within the dance genre there are a few artists emerging with mixed gender groups such as Aluna George (who are a duo) and Clean Bandit (consisting of three males and one female).

Two of our main inspirations for our female vocalist are Katy B and Aluna from AlunaGeorge. The image we're trying to create for our artist is a strong female who is aspirational for young girls to look up to, we don't want her to be over-sexualised like many female artists who are already successful within the music industry.

We would like our two male DJs to be similar to Disclosure, - a young, electronic dance music duo who are brothers - hence the close bond between them.

Martin Garrix, Flume, and Wilkinson are three solo male DJs who appeal to our target audience. They share a similar, relaxed style to the look of our two male DJs, aren't to dissimilar in age, and act as role models for young guys - like Martin Garrix for example who is only 17 years old and is already

Steal-o-matic

Our steal-o-matic is composed of visual references taken from music videos, programmes, images, and gifs that have inspired us in some way during the creation of our music video. 

The 4 key set ups that we have tried to show in the steal-o-matic are:

• A powder paint fight - we originally planned to do this in the studio but due to the amount of mess this would make, we have decided to film this scene in Epping Forest
• A playful balloon scene
• A neon scene - we hope to use this mainly for lip-syncing, using close up shots of the lips coloured neon, and switching between a negative effect as well
• A projection scene - we really want to use projections of archive Alice in Wonderland footage to be played over the artist

The main themes that we wanted to convey in the video are:

• Friendship
• Playfulness
• Dancing/Partying
• Being in a world of your own/power of your imagination/what goes on inside your head etc - all relating to the title of the track 'My Head is a Jungle'

Our main narrative reference was to Alice In Wonderland - mainly the 1951 Walt Disney produced film version. The main points we wish to draw from this narrative are:

• Eating the cookies/cupcakes at the beginning of the video
• Using archive footage as projections, or with a double exposure over our own footage
• Scenery and prop inspiration

Our artist image:

• One female vocalist - a young girl who is attractive but not overly-sexualised, similar to artists such as Katy B and the singer of Route 94.
• 2 male DJs, like Disclosure
• An element of interaction between the female vocalist and the DJs like AlunaGeorge

Editing:

• Reverse Shots - particularly in shots with lots of movement, similar to the reverse shot of neon paint jumping up and down in our steal-o-matic 
• Negative effects to contrast with the neon scene images
• Silhouettes
• Flashing lights/strobe effects

Mise-en-scene:

• Balloons, possible some filled with glitter
• Balloons in the shape of a giant mushroom
